A patient came in to see Dr. Kime Whitman at Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry and begin the process of a smile makeover.

Although his permanent canines were present, the patient had two baby canine teeth that never fell out. He was also congenitally missing two of his adult lateral incisors. As a result, the permanent canines had grown into the position where his lateral incisors should have been — on either side of the two front teeth.

The patient also had spacing and flaring of some of his teeth that he wanted to be straighter and more symmetrical. He wanted to have the retained baby teeth removed and dental implants placed to have full dentition. He also opted for a professional whitening as he wanted a bright, straight smile.

To begin the process, Dr. Kime Whitman extracted the patient’s two baby teeth. She then worked with an orthodontist to design a treatment plan for the patient that would correct the spacing and flaring issues and create space for the two dental implants to replace his missing lateral incisors. The orthodontist moved the teeth into proper alignment and left the planned amount of space for Dr. Kime Whitman to place two implants.

Once the teeth were straightened and the implants healed and ready for crowns, Dr. Kime Whitman n did GLO professional teeth whitening for the patient. Then, she had his permanent crowns made to match his newly whitened teeth. The orthodontist also made retainers for the patient to ensure the teeth stay aligned and don’t shift over time.

The patient was extremely happy with the final result of his smile makeover. It was exactly what he wanted, and he was initially in disbelief that his teeth looked natural. He was so excited to show his mom and was smiling from ear to ear when he left the office!

Having straight teeth can improve the function of your teeth as well as your appearance, but not everyone wants to get braces to have a stunning smile.

Dr. Kime Whitman and her team at Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry recently worked with a patient that had a tooth that was set back adjacent to the patient’s front teeth. While he wanted all his teeth to be in alignment and match, he didn’t want to get any type of orthodontics or have braces for months to resolve the issue.

To correct the appearance of the teeth, Dr. Kime Whitman placed a single crown over the tooth to bring it into alignment with the rest of the patient’s front teeth. Particular attention was given to matching the contour and shade of the crown with the surrounding teeth to make the restoration look as natural as possible.

After the crown placement, the patient was extremely pleased with the final outcome. He appreciated the simplicity and quickness of the treatment, which only took two appointments over the span of two weeks, rather than having braces and multiple orthodontic visits for several months just for a single tooth.

Chipped teeth can significantly impact the appearance of a smile, especially when there are numerous chips or multiple teeth affected. Dr. Kime Whitman and her team worked with a patient who had chipped edges on his front teeth from old nail-biting habits. Since the chips were very visible, the patient wanted to restore his smile and his self-confidence by getting them fixed.

The patient was an excellent candidate for dental bonding, a procedure which uses composite resin, the same material used in tooth-colored fillings, to fill in chips and restore the teeth. After a good cleaning and some minor bonding, Dr. Kime Whitman was able to hide the chips without additional treatments such as dental crowns and veneers.

After the procedure, the patient was so pleased with the outcome: “I feel like a new person!” He emailed and called the Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry team back to thank them again and let them know that it had been years since his smile had looked so good — and all with a non-invasive procedure that only took one appointment!

Jim had not been able to eat normally in several years due to severely loose and crowded teeth. He missed being able to eat all of his favorite foods, including pizza and steak, due to not being able to bite into them.

After coming to Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry to explore his treatment options, Dr. Kime Whitman determined that Jim required a full mouth restoration to restore both his appearance and his teeth.

Since his natural teeth were loose, they could not be restored and required extractions. After completing the extractions and allowing time for healing, Dr. Kime Whitman worked with an oral surgery specialist to successfully place 10 dental implants and temporary dentures.

The final stage of the process was when Jim received his final prosthesis, which was made of ceramic zirconia and designed to fit securely and seamlessly onto the 10 implants—six on the top arch and four on the bottom.

At the end of the process, Jim had a fully functional and natural-looking smile that allowed him to comfortably eat and enjoy all his favorite foods. He was smiling from ear to ear and happy to eat normally again!

Her dental veneers were old, and she said they were monochromatic and not glossy. She wanted something that was more natural looking, so Dr. Kime Whitman discussed a treatment plan to replace all of her old, discolored veneers, and provide a vibrant natural-looking smile that matched her natural teeth color.

Within two weeks, Dr. Kime Whitman was able to replace all of her dental veneers, providing her ‘lipstick ready’ smile which you can see in the before/after photos. When we completed her treatment plan, she was very pleased with her new glossy smile.

A patient came to work with Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry because she disliked the color of her natural front teeth.

Over the years, this patient had multiple fillings in these teeth, which had become stained and were breaking down, causing discoloration. In addition, there was leakage around the large restorations, which caused further discoloration and cavities underneath the fillings.

The patient also had a dental bridge on the right side of her mouth and crowns on her left side and wanted the rest of her front teeth to match these restorations.

After understanding the patient’s goals for her smile, Dr. Kime Whitman designed a treatment plan that included Invisalign to bring the front teeth into proper alignment first. Once the front teeth were properly positioned, the decay was removed from the teeth, and temporary crowns were placed.

Dr. Kime Whitman completed all of the prep work for the restorations in just one visit. The patient also received digital scans from an in-office iTero scanner, which allowed the Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry team to take contactless measurements of her smile for the crowns.

In two weeks, Dr. Kime Whitman removed the temporary dental crowns and placed the permanent ones. The patient was in disbelief when she saw her before-and-after photos and could not stop smiling!

Dr. Kime Whitman recently tended to a patient who required an emergency appointment due to trauma and needed a temporary tooth.

The patient had suffered severe trauma to the face, including a fractured jaw and a lost front tooth. Since the patient was in pain but required treatment, the Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry team was able to painlessly scan her mouth to have a temporary tooth made so she would not have to be missing a tooth and did not have to undergo scans that required physical contact.

As a result, Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry had a temporary tooth ready for her in just 24 hours, and the patient was pleased with the aesthetics. She was most happy that she did not have to go without a front tooth for months while the area healed in preparation for a front tooth implant.

Now, the patient has a realistic temporary tooth while she heals and prepares for an implant in the coming months to fully restore her smile.

A patient came into Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry for a comprehensive exam, cleaning, annual checkup and X-rays. His chief complaint was that he had noticed a hole in the side of one of his teeth.

Fortunately, the patient did not have symptoms of pain or sensitivity. However, he did notice that food was getting stuck in that area. The hygienist and Dr. Kime Whitman noticed that the patient had lost a great deal of enamel and even dentin, the layer underneath the enamel, in this area. This loss of tooth structure was ultimately compromising the strength and health of the tooth.

The concern was that if the patient bit down into something hard, the top part of the tooth where the hole was could snap or fracture due to the lack of structural support.

Dr. Kime Whitman recommended a filling to cover the exposed areas of the tooth lacking dentin and enamel. A dental filling would also give the tooth enough support for the patient to eat normally and comfortably without worrying about a future fracture.

Once the filling was complete, the patient was very happy with the results. He was impressed by the complete lack of pain and discomfort during the procedure, how fast the appointment was, and how normal his smile looked afterward. He stated that the material used in the filling looked extremely natural compared to older fillings he had done in previous years from other dentists.

This patient now has a strong tooth that is not at risk of breaking, and food cannot get trapped in the hole that was previously there, giving him a simple yet effective restoration.

A patient visited Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry for a teeth whitening procedure with GLO professional whitening. The patient’s teeth were already on the lighter end, but she wanted them just a few shades whiter.

In just one hour, Dr. Kime Whitman was able to lighten the patient’s teeth by three shades. The patient was pleasantly surprised to see a big difference with the professional whitening compared to the over-the-counter whitening products she had used in the past.

The process was quick, easy and painless, and the patient left the office with noticeably whiter teeth than when she first walked in. Patients who come to Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry for professional whitening are often surprised by how much whiter their teeth look in just one appointment instead of weeks or months of using store-bought kits!

A patient came to Leesburg Family and Cosmetic Dentistry because they wanted to have whiter teeth for the holidays. Although they had had their teeth whitened in the past, they wanted to improve their smile and get rid of stains. With all the festivities of the holidays and get-togethers, the patient wanted their teeth to look less dull and more bright before seeing family and friends.

Dr. Kime Whitman worked with the patient to provide professional teeth whitening with the GLO in-office whitening system. GLO allowed the patient’s teeth to jump three shades lighter in just under an hour. The patient was able to have their teeth whitened during a quick appointment, then they were on their way to enjoy the holidays.

The patient, who had previously had their teeth whitened with Zoom, was very happy with the completed treatment and results. “I have done Zoom professional whitening before, and the GLO system was so much better. I had so much sensitivity with the Zoom and very little, almost none, with the GLO. The results were also better and faster.”

With their newly whitened teeth, the patient can smile bright for the holidays and into the New Year!
