If you look in the mirror and you don’t know what to do to help correct and restore your beautiful smile, you could be in need of a smile makeover.
A smile makeover resolves multiple oral health and cosmetic dental issues over a series of appointments, with the end goal being complete restoration of your oral health and a beautiful smile. Any dental service we offer at Leesburg Family & Cosmetic Dentistry can be included in a plan for your smile makeover.
When you come in to meet Dr. Whitman for a smile makeover consultation, she will examine your teeth and talk to you about what your goals are for your teeth. She will then advise you on what dental health issues you have, and together, you will make a plan for the work that is to be done.
“It’s hard to believe that my teeth used to look so bad. They’ve never looked better than they do now—and it’s all thanks to Dr. Whitman and her team. I couldn’t imagine a better experience for all the work I needed done!”
— Jonathan, Morven Park, VA
When Jonathan came in to see us for a consultation, he not only had several cavities and developing gum disease (gingivitis) after not going to the dentist for years, but he was also unhappy with the discoloration of his teeth.
Dr. Whitman knew that Jonathan needed more than a conventional cleaning to remove the stains, and he would need treatment for both his tooth decay and gingivitis prior to the procedure.
Jonathan and Dr. Whitman scheduled separate appointments for him to receive therapy for his mild gum disease as well as to fill his cavities. Dr. Whitman also conducted a deep cleaning to help remove surface stains and reverse the gingivitis. “Dr. Whitman and her staff were communicative, friendly, and always made me feel comfortable,” Jonathan says of his procedures at Leesburg Family & Cosmetic Dentistry.
After his smile was healed and already well on its way to looking better, Jonathan finished his treatment with the professional teeth whitening he wanted. “I can’t say how much healthier my smile looks and feels!”
The order of the procedures in a smile makeover plan will depend on your oral health. More urgent oral health issues should be corrected before cosmetic procedures are started, to make sure you have a healthy mouth and teeth to serve as a base for your new smile. If you desire teeth whitening, once your teeth are healthy, you may have the whitening procedure before any dental work like crowns or veneers, because dental work cannot be whitened once it is in place. If you need orthodontics like braces or Invisalign, that can be part of an overall smile makeover as well.
The entire duration of your smile makeover will be longer if orthodontics or dental implants that require surgery are involved. If you only need a few procedures done, your overall time to completion may be much shorter.
Your initial consultation with Dr. Whitman will also include questions about your overall health and your family health history. This is because some health problems can affect your oral health and may make a difference in how likely certain dental procedures are to be successful. This is especially true of dental implants. When you come in to the office for your consultation, you should have information about your health, any medications you take, and your family health history. In some cases, procedures like surgery that accompany dental procedures in your smile makeover may be referred to a specialist.
We can help you to understand each step of your smile makeover, and lay out a schedule for appointments at the beginning. However, because healing time and other factors are subject to change, the schedule may need to be adjusted from time to time.
